According to Dahl, witches abhor children, particularly because a child, no matter how clean, reeks of a stench that witch's are very sensitive to. Groups of witches meet once a year to formulate new plans to destroy the children of the world. The head of all witches is a fearsome and terrifyingly powerful "woman" known as The Grand High Witch. After two failed attempts to tackle to book, fascinated by the subject matter both times, I finally got through it, inspired to read it because of the Broadway musical based on the book that I found myself mesmerized by (go see it, despite how different it is).The book is a richly textured account of the life of the Wicked Witch of the West /5(15).

In Scottish folklore, this fear of witches is certainly perceived in many tales, including “The Witch of Fife” (The Scottish Fairy Book) about a man who discovers his wife is a witch. Interested in her mysterious travels and adventures in the middle of the night, the husband secretly follows her only to end up getting burnt at the stake. Every Witch makes his or her own Book of Shadows. A Book of Shadows is your personal magick diary, with notes on what rituals and magick you performed, when you performed it, what you did, what kind of results you got, any feelings you have about your magick, your life, or anything else that you feel is important to record about your experiences as a Witch.

Wicked's flavor is the gothic freakishness of Carson McCullers and Flannery O'Connor blended with liberal amounts of dark humor and socio-political satire a la Kurt Vonnegut and Tom Robbins, seasoned with honesty, sympathy and earnestness. It is the heretofore untold story of the Wicked Witch of the West. In it we learn about. He approached the front windows from the opposite direction of the line of witches and peered inside. At the head of the line was an attractive blonde woman wearing glasses, sitting behind a table piled high with books. As he watched, the blonde spoke to the witch at the head of the line as she took a book from the top of one of the stacks.
